The Best Exhibitions, Children’s Entertainment and Festivals of 2019: Active Citizens Choose Winners of the Jubilee Guiding Star Award

Moscow residents can choose the best festivals and cultural projects, as well as the most interesting sites in the capital city to visit with children on the Active Citizen project website. The award established by the Moscow Сity Tourism Committee marks its 20th anniversary in 2019. Now in their fourth year, the Active Citizen project participants continue to determine the winners in various nominations.

The voting for the Guiding Star Award in the Cultural Moscow nomination has started on the Active Citizen project website. It presents large-scale projects of museums and exhibition halls of the capital of 2019: Ilya Repin Retrospective at State Tretyakov Gallery; the exhibition “Shchukin. Biography of the Collection” at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts; the exhibition “Man as a frame for the landscape” by Russian artist Pavel Pepperstein at the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art; the first large-scale project of Yoko Ono in Russia, “YOKO ONO. SKY IS ALWAYS CLEAR” at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art; international exhibition project “Shukhov. Formula of Architecture” at the A. V. Shchusev Sate Museum of Architecture; the exhibition “Youth Union. Russian Avant-Garde 1909–1914” at the Jewish Museum and the Center for Tolerance, dedicated to the creative unification of key avant-garde artists of the first third of the 20th century.

In addition, the award in a new Children First nomination will be presented this year. The voting has already started. It presents entertaining and thematic children parks of the capital city worthy of the award: the Moscow Planetarium; the center of oceanography and marine biology “Moskvarium”; children theme park “Masterslavl”; children edutainment park “KidZania”; Museum of entertaining sciences “Experimentanium”.

The active citizens of Moscow will also choose the winner of the special Festival Moscow award on the project’s website. Among the nominees for 2019 are: Moscow City Day 2019; Fireworks Festival “Rostec”; Spasskaya Tower Festival; Christmas Journey Festival; Art Festival “Inspiration”; Circle of Light Moscow International Festival.

The Tourism and Hotel Industry Guiding Star Award of 2019 will be presented on December 11, 2019 at Moscow Musical Theatre “Helikon-Opera” in the format of literary meeting, thereby emphasizing the high art of creating an atmosphere of hospitality. The host of the ceremony is Alexander Tsypkin. With the participation of Anna Mikhalkova and Evgeny Stychkin.

The Guiding Star Award is a non-profit professional contest in the field of tourism and hotel industry between Moscow enterprises, its purpose is to improve the quality of service, encourage innovative initiatives, as well as create a positive image of the capital city as a world tourist center. The Guiding Star is a kind of Tourist Oscar of Moscow.

The Active Citizen project emerged in 2014. Today, 2.6 million people have become its participants. More than four thousand votings have taken place and more than three thousand desires of Moscow citizens have been implemented over five years.
