Moscow Wins In Two Categories Of World Travel Awards Europe

Moscow won the main award in the category «Europe’s Leading City Destination» beating top European megalopolises, like Barcelona, ​​London, Paris, Rome, Venice, St. Petersburg and others. Russia's capital also won «Europe's Leading Heritage Destination».

“Dear friends, let me congratulate everyone on winning the World Travel Awards 2020 Europe!  Our city won in the key categories: Europe’s Leading City Destination and Europe's Leading Heritage Destination. Now we are waiting for the Grand Final of the 'Oscar of the tourism industry,' as the World Travel Awards are sometimes called.  Moscow is represented in seven nominations at once on the global stage. The winners will be announced on November 27, and an online ceremony will be held here, in Moscow.  Of course, we hope that our beloved city will be the winner," said Sergey Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow in Instagram. 

Russia's capital was nominated in three categories: Europe’s Leading City Destination, Europe's Leading Festival & Events Destination and Europe's Leading Heritage Destination.  The Moscow City Tourism Committee was nominated in another category, Europe's Leading City Tourist Board. Open voting took place on the Awards' official website up until August 17. The jury took into account the opinions of both tourism industry experts and travellers.

This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the hosts of the regional stages of the World Travel Awards 2020 decided to forego the awards ceremony.  The winners will be announced in November on the official website of the awards.

In the Grand Final of the World Travel Awards, Moscow is nominated in seven categories: World’s Leading Business Travel Destination, World’s Leading City Break Destination, World’s Leading City Destination, World’s Leading Cultural City Destination, World’s Leading Festival & Events Destination, World’s Leading Heritage Destination and World’s Leading Sports Tourism Destination.

The winners will be announced at the World Travel Awards Grand Final, which, for the first time, will be held online in Moscow on November 27, 2020.

World Travel Awards

The World Travel Awards were founded in 1993. They are considered to be the most prestigious awards in tourism. They are awarded annually in 80+ categories to the most attractive cities for travellers, the best tour operators, airlines, resorts, hotels and other representatives of the industry.

Each year, World Travel Awards hosts a Grand Tour, a series of regional galas on every continent. The winners of the previous year, as well as those participants who applied independently or were nominated by the organizers' expert council, are nominated. The winners of regional ceremonies and those nominated by the expert council of the Awards make it into the Grand Final.
