70 % of tourists are young people
aged under 34
According to a social research interview conducted previously this year, the majority of Russian tourists (77.5 %) visiting Moscow are aged under 34, 33.3 % them which are young people aged between 18 and 24. The larger half of the Russian tourists are men (53.2 %).
Young people are predominant among guests from foreign countries except former Soviet republics: 63.6% aged under 34, 28.0 % of which are aged between 18 and 24. About 19.9 % of the foreign guests of the capital are aged between 35 and 44. Men account to 57.2 % of all foreign tourists.
Millennials, or those, who were born between 1980 and 2000, are the most active Moscow guests. According to a study conducted in 2019 by Deloitte, an international consulting company, travelling and an opportunity to see the world are the core values for 57 % of millennials. They spend money for experiences, not for material stuff. And those experiences have to be special, unique, and non-standard. Generation Y loves a broad selection, unique events, and high quality services.
Nowadays, Moscow can satisfy these requirements. Numerous fests, cultural, entertainment, and sporting events alongside with the development of the transport infrastructure and new services make the capital even more attractive for tourists and especially for millennials.
Research method
The analysis was performed on the results of sample-based sociological surveys among Russian and foreign tourists. All-Russian representative survey: 17,000 respondents. Sociological survey among foreign tourists: 2,400 respondents.
The core values for millennials (57 %) are travelling and an opportunity to see the world.
