Moscow welcomes delegates of the UNWTO General Assembly for the first time

On September 14–15, Moscow will host a visiting session the UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) General Assembly for the first time ever. The event is organized by the Moscow City Tourism Committee and ANO Moscow Project Office for Tourism and Hospitality Development.

Within two days, business sessions, official meetings, and cultural activities will be attended by ministers, delegates, and representatives from both the public and private sectors of the UNWTO member countries. The two-day activities will provide a unique opportunity to discuss important issues of the tourism industry with a special emphasis on urban development and to demonstrate the progress made in this direction by the Russian capital. In addition, the Moscow Event attendees will be able to familiarize themselves with the rich cultural and historical heritage of the capital and to evaluate its tourism potential. “It is a great honour and responsibility to host the General Assembly delegates in our city, and at the same time it is an opportunity to increase the attractiveness and weight of Moscow on the global stage. It is already known that representatives of relevant ministries and departments and tourism organizations from 60 countries around the world are planning to take part in the Moscow event. We are preparing to receive delegates at a high level, i.e. with a business and sightseeing program to acquaint them with Moscow. I can confidently say that we have something to be proud of and to show to our foreign colleagues, because the city is turning step by step into a world center of the leisure and hospitality industry,” said Ekaterina Pronicheva, the chairman of the Moscow City Tourism Committee. The business program of the UNWTO General Assembly in Moscow will be represented by the session titled “Everyone Benefits: Tourism Development Strategies in Global Cities”. The session attendees’ attention will be drawn to the key areas of the 23rd General Assembly session, such as sustainable development in tourism, the importance of education and creation of new jobs, innovations. Furthermore, themed tour program have been prepared for the General Assembly delegates who will gather in Moscow so that they could appreciate the diversity of the capital’s attractions.
